Learning Navigator’s catalog is rich with a full spectrum of Open Education Resources for K-12, post-secondary and life-long learning. The highly curated content is tagged to meet the needs of all learners. The catalog includes more than 4 million open resources and 250,000 assessment questions. Most importantly, the resources in the catalog are tagged with complete metadata.
Navigator contains a catalog of high-quality, metadata-tagged resources and questions that have been proven in practice, organized by educators, and approved by leading researchers. Gooru indexes educational resources from publishers like EngageNY, CK12, NASA, Openstax, KQED, Khan Academy, etc.
Content is curated using a human and machine-generated tagging system. Educators and content exporters add metadata tags, such as competency and standards tags, depth of knowledge, and types of resources. Other tags, such as relevance, engagement, and efficacy, are algorithmically generated using activity stream data and Bayesian Knowledge Tracing techniques.
A full spectrum of learning resources, such as media-rich interactives, videos, labs, narratives, presentations, and offline rubric graded projects and experiential learning activities, are available. Machine-graded and teacher-rubric graded formative assessments can be searched and assigned to help all learners develop complex and abstract knowledge in a variety of subjects and domains.
Navigator uses highly curated Open Education Resources in conjunction with offline tasks to index a full spectrum of learning activities. Learners can interact with digital content, labs, simulations, and a multitude of formative assessment items (from machine graded items to offline rubric graded projects). Metadata collected for each assessment item helps to determine a learner’s depth of knowledge on that competency, skills developed, common struggles, and the current location of the learner.
OERs are entered into the system and tagged by content experts or educators for standards, accessibility, and depth of knowledge. Relevance, efficacy, and engagement are automatically generated using activity stream data and a Bayesian Knowledge Tracing technique.
